What is a will?

Your assets such as property, savings, shares and personal possessions become your ‘estate’ upon your death. A Will is the legal document that sets out how your estate should be distributed to your loved ones and other chosen beneficiaries.
A Will allows you to decide who receives your assets, appoint guardians for your children, and ensure that your wishes are carried out. Without a will, your estate will be distributed according to the laws of intestacy, which may not reflect your intentions or support any tax planning opportunities to reduce inheritance tax exposure.

Why having a will matters

A well-prepared Will ensures that your beneficiaries are cared for and that your estate is handled according to wishes and objectives. Key benefits include:
  • Control over asset distribution
  • Protecting your family and providing for them after your death
  • Providing for particular beneficiaries for a time period with the potential for capital to be passed to other beneficiaries – such as in the case of blended families
  • Reducing disputes and minimising stress
  • Ensure clarity over your wishes
  • Can be combined with inheritance tax planning
  • Flexibility and peace of mind
Your Will can be updated as your circumstances change, and you can include a Letter of Wishes that shares more personal details such as reasons for your choices, managing digital accounts and more specific funeral wishes.

Ready to get started with your will?

We have a simple five-step process to support you when preparing a Will.
1

Initial meeting

You’ll be invited to meet in a way that you feel most comfortable, in our office, online, or at your home. This is when we learn about your current assets, and your intentions for protection and distribution.
2

Asset assessment and tax implication analysis

We’ll identify opportunities to optimise your assets within your Will, integrate tax planning, and ensure clarity for your beneficiaries
3

Implementation

We draft your Will, establish trusts if required and put arrangements in place that meet your objectives
4

Implementation

We will take you through your draft Will to ensure that you fully understand the document. Once happy, we will oversee the signing and the witnessing of the document
5

Support for the future

Life changes such as marriage, divorce, birth, inheritance, or new assets can affect your Will, and we can update as required. We can also assist your executors and beneficiaries with estate administration, reporting, and compliance, providing peace of mind that your estate is managed properly
